October is Adopt a Dog Month!

October Is Adopt A Dog Month

American Humane has named October “Adopt a Dog Month.” There’s no better time to consider bringing a new four-legged friend into your life — and Twin Peaks Veterinary has some special incentives to make the experience even easier for pet owners in Tucson, Marana and surrounding areas. Let’s look at some of the many benefits of pet adoption.

First of all, when you adopt a pet, you’re performing a major service, not just for the pet in question, but for the entire animal community. Some 5,500 dogs and cats in shelters must be euthanized every day simply because they haven’t found their forever home yet and the shelters cannot make room for them all.

Choosing a pet from a shelter gives you many options for finding the perfect animals for your personality and household. Pets in shelters haven’t necessarily been turned over because they were unmanageable or hostile; many owners find that they just don’t have the resources to care for a cat or dog properly. Other animals become homeless or displaced due to natural disasters or other unavoidable circumstances. In any case, you’re very likely to find a great friend. Pets also help us, too — numerous studies have shown that caring for pets conveys emotional, mental and physical benefits to owners.
